Africa-Press – Namibia. As the campaign season picks up, Katutura Central constituency councillor Vezemba Rodman Katjaimo wants to be given another mandate, saying he delivered on his 2020 campaign vows.
Katjaimo, in an interview this week, revealed his intention to seek re-election in the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authority elections scheduled for November.
The interview forms part of New Era’s pre-election coverage, where we delve into different constituencies and local authorities on what has been done over the past five years, the challenges, and the road ahead.
When approached, Katjaimo – a former sport broadcaster turned politician – was upbeat and ready to present himself to the electorate once again.
“The people of Katutura Central know what I stand for. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, and I’m ready to do even more,” Katjaimo said.
He expressed confidence in his track record, saying he remains committed to completing the development agenda he set in motion when first elected in 2020.
Promises
One of Katjaimo’s most publicised pledges in 2020 was to paint 1 000 homes in the constituency. Since then, he said, the project has already benefited over 50 pensioners and community institutions such as the First Saint John Apostolic Faith Mission Church, established in 1953.
“We went beyond just painting homes. We’ve renovated the Katutura Health Centre and built a proper gate at Bethold Himumuine Primary School,” he added.
Katjaimo highlighted multiple projects executed during his tenure, including free Wi-Fi installations at Katutura Library and Jacob Marengo Secondary School, with a total investment of N$340 000 for the 2022–2025 period.
Other community developments achieved under his banner include a new soup kitchen at English Primary School, built at a cost of N$1.5 million, with an additional N$190,000 spent on kitchen equipment; a Back-to-School programme funded with N$250 000, benefiting more than 250 vulnerable children; an annual winter drive distributing 500 new blankets and clothing to residents in need; and a school support project that includes payment of registration fees for hundreds of children.
Katjaimo further pointed to the construction of the Katutura Central constituency office underway in the heart of Katutura (Single Quarters), the planned upgrade of Oruramba Rua Rodman, and the expansion of Wi-Fi connectivity at some schools in the constituency as some of his achievements.
In terms of economic empowerment, Katjaimo said his office provided funding to over 35 SMEs, totalling more than N$500 000.
“We also tabled a motion in the Khomas Regional Council to establish the Khomas Expo, a homegrown event that will rival the Windhoek Show and focus on job creation for our youth,” he noted.
At a personal level, Katjaimo said he offered to continue offering humanitarian support to residents facing hardships. “We’ve supported individuals and families who found themselves in desperate situations. This is part of our commitment to community upliftment,” the politician said.
2020
A former sports presenter at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), Katjaimo left journalism after 16 years to pursue politics under the Popular Democratic Movement banner.
During his campaign then, Katjaimo said he had what it takes to unchain the constituency from the shackles of poverty, crime, and hopelessness.
“This time I’m not just seeking a second chance, but I want to continue a mission that I embarked on in 2020. I did what I said I would do, and I believe the work we’ve done speaks for itself. “Ndjipauee oka terma kemue okalaste makezepa je?” reads his campaign slogan loosely translated, “Afford me that one last term, it wont kill.”
