Africa-Press – Namibia. Recent changes in government and the reconfiguration of administrative responsibilities, had resulted in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) resuming its oversight of Telecom Namibia.

Given this, Telecom Namibia’s board of directors and executive management, joined by its subsidiary’s (Powercom) board and executive team, met ICT minister Emma Theofelus, on Wednesday at the Telecom Namibia head office in Windhoek.

The event was the inaugural quarterly meeting, part of the ministry’s engagements with public enterprises under it, including Telecom Namibia. This is to ensure alignment with national objectives and strategic business priorities.

This followed discussions on strategic matters concerning Telecom Namibia, aligning expectations, and exploring collaborative efforts to advance Namibia’s digital transformation.

“Telecom Namibia welcomes the opportunity to engage the minister and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the national vision for a digitally empowered Namibia,” said Stanley Shanapinda, Telecom Namibia’s chief executive officer. “We believe close collaboration with the ministry is essential to maximize our contribution to the nation’s development, in the areas of network modernisation that Telecom has embarked on; rolling out national 5G services and fibre projects; and to improve on quality of service.”
