Increasing visitor complaints at Etosha concerns ministry

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism says it is concerned over the increasing number of complaints from visitors to Etosha National Park.

The complaints are mostly about the state of the toilets, roads and noise pollution at the park.

Ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda says the ministry has received complaints with regards to the park’s ablution facilities.

“The toilets have not been cleaned for quite some time now. We will intensify the cleaning of toilets in the park together with Namibia Wildlife Resorts,” he says.

Muyunda says some visitors to the park are rowdy.

“Lawlessness has been consistently observed in the park, with visitors violating park rules and regulations. Some people are jumping out of their vehicles while in the park,” he says.

This is of big concern for the ministry, and plans to ensure adherence at all times are ongoing, Muyunda says.

According to him, issues with regards to the roads have been raised.

“The roads require continuous maintenance. It’s quite a challenge, but we are continuously addressing it,” he says.

Muyunda says the ministry, in conjunction with the German government, will set up kiosks and coffee shops in the park.

“As a matter of fact, in the first quarter of 2023, through co-funding from the German government, we will revamp the facilities to include, among others, kiosks and coffee shops. We will also improve the standard of our ablution facilities,” he says.

Muyunda says the venture between the two governments aims to ensure sustainable tourism.

He says the ministry will always step in to maintain the park’s reputation.
