Africa-Press – Namibia. The Indian high commission in Namibia hosted its inaugural ‘India Bazaar’ in Windhoek on Saturday – an event that saw the attendance of diplomats and high-ranking Namibian officials.
Delivering his keynote address at the event, India’s high commissioner to Namibia, Rahul Shrivastava, hailed the event as a platform for cultural exchange and a symbol of friendship between Namibia and India.
The event featured stalls with Indian cuisine, colourful sarees, henna art, handcrafted items and a photo exhibition highlighting India’s landscapes and traditions.
Visitors also enjoyed a cultural programme of music, dance and performance.
“The India Bazaar is a vibrant embodiment of our cultural heritage, showcasing the beauty and diversity that India has to offer,” Shrivastava said, noting that each stall and display told its own story, giving Namibians a window into the richness of Indian life.
The high commissioner commended the efforts of the organisers and participants who brought the event to life, stating that the bazaar was more than a celebration of food, art and performance, but also an opportunity to strengthen community ties.
“Together, we can weave a fabric of understanding, warmth and solidarity that enhances the ties between India and Namibia,” Shrivastava said.
Members of the Indian community living in Namibia also attended the event.
According to the high commission, the event will become an annual celebration, aimed at further deepening cultural diplomacy.
