Africa-Press – Namibia. FORMER boxing sensation and champion of the world Julius “Blue Machine” Indongo is ploughing back into his community by, among others, organizing sports events that reward best performers.
The latest such event, the Indongo Road Crush, took place at the Ongwediva town in the Oshana Region recently.
It attracted over 50 athletes from the surrounding areas.
The runners competed in the 5 km and 21 km categories.
Indongo said that his plan is to host the event annually as a way of ploughing back into the community.
He is satisfied with the turnout and expressed the hope that the event would attract even more people next year.
“Sports unify people, that is why we will continue to invest in the young Namibians at any chance we get,” he said.
He said that eight top male and five female runners scooped great prizes in both junior and veteran categories.
Indongo said that an amount of over N$90 000 was invested in the event this year and promised to invest a bigger amount next year.
Prominent personalities who attended the event included retired police chief Sebastian Ndeitunga and Oshana police commander Naftal Lungameni Sakaria.
