Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has voiced support for the Namibian youth who protested the high unemployment crisis in the country on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by IPC youth leader Michael Mwashindange, the party expressed deep concern over the issue.

Mwashindange also expressed disappointment over the arrest of Popular Democratic Movement parliamentarian Inna Hengari, activist Michael Amushelelo and Dimbulukeni Nauyoma.

“We are disheartened by the unfortunate arrest of Amushelelo, Nauyoma, and Hengari during a recent peaceful protest, and we call for their fair treatment and the respect of their rights to peacefully assemble,” Mwashindange said.

He said the country is currently facing an unemployment crisis that disproportionately affects the youth, with some of the highest unemployment rates in the world.

“The IPC Youth Affairs believes that addressing this unemployment crisis requires concerted efforts from all stakeholders, including the government, private sector, and civil society,” he said.

It is our responsibility to ensure that young Namibians have access to quality education, skills development, and job opportunities that will enable them to contribute positively to the nation’s economic growth and social development.

He called on the government to prioritise youth unemployment by implementing both immediate and short-term solutions, while working on long-term strategies.

“Immediate measures may include temporary job creation programmes, skills development initiatives, and targeted financial support,” he said.
