Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has withdrawn Omuthiya councillor Thomas Ekandjo from representing the party on the local authority council effective 4 November 2022.
A letter directed to Ekandjo from the party’s national general secretary, Christine Aochamus, dated 4 November, stated that Ekandjo was withdrawn in accordance with section 13 (1) (g) of the Local Authority Act 23 of 1992.
The act states that a member of the local authority council should vacate his or her office if he or she is withdrawn by the political party, association or organisation that nominated him or her for election.
“We will communicate the filling of the vacancy in line with the procedures set out in the relevant legislation in due course,” Aochamus said in the letter.
When contacted for comment, Aochamus asked whether the letter was directed to The Namibian or Ekandjo.
“I also don’t know because I don’t have the letter. If it is directed to Ekandjo, then ask him,” she said.
Ekandjo confirmed his withdrawal but did not provide the reasons.
“Please ask the party, they must have a reason why they withdrew me, but I go with the letter,” Ekandjo said.
