Africa-Press – Namibia. The clinic at Erago village in the Ncamagoro constituency of Kavango West is set to finally get a gravel road that will link it to the Trans- Caprivi Highway.

The clinic lies more than 20 km from the highway, making it difficult to reach for many.

The road will be constructed from Mbeyo village, which is along the Trans-Caprivi Highway to Erago village, which is phase one of the project. The road will futher be extended to Matende village which is along the Rundu-Nkurenkuru highway. Phase 1 will be constructed in a period of 12 months. The construction tender was awarded to state owned Roads Contractor Company (RCC). Making the announcement on Monday, Minister of Works and Transport, Veiko Nekundi said that the government is committed to ensure the enhancement, rehabilitation and maintenance of transport infrastructure, as well as to eradicate poverty through employment creations on amongst others, through projects as this one.

“This is inline with the NDP6 were our desired outcome as a nation has efficient, safe sustainable road infrastructure and service.

The existing sand track between Mbeyo, Erago to Matende has been a challenge to all of our communities,’’ he said. Nekundi stated that the absence of a proper road limited communities in terms of movement and transportation of goods.

“It was a nightmare, it was a barrier for you to reach the market with your produce as well as to reach many other essential services including schools, clinics and more. Your government stands ready to respond to your cry as we are here today hence the upgrading of this very important road to a standard of soil stabiliser, the 20 km, Mbeyo – Erago to Matende road will benefit many communities,’’ he said. Kavango West regional governor, Verna Sinimbo said the government ‘listens’ when people are ‘crying’.

“Today is more than a groundbreaking ceremony, it is a reminder of the faith and trust people have in their government, that development will reach every corner of our country,” she said.
