Africa-Press – Namibia. Action in the Khomas Basketball League will resume this weekend, with a number of games lined up for today and Sunday.
Action will start today at 17h30, as the Unam Pacers take on an opponent in the Khomas Basketball Association (KBA) division one at the Unam Gym Hall, followed by an exhibition match between the KBA Select Wheelchair Team against Wheel Ability Basketball Club at 19h00.
At 20h30 in the first division, Unam Penguins will take on NUST Gladiators in an exciting match-up. Speaking to this publication yesterday, Titus Mwahafa of the Namibia Basketball Federation (NBF) said the league has become competitive over the last few years.
“I am happy with how the players and the league have shown maturity. I believe that in five years from now, the league will consist of some of the best players on the continent. I have watched this league turn into something that the region can be proud of.
The competition in the women’s league has also shown how much we have evolved as a nation. Twenty years ago, no one would have said we were going to have a women’s league, and have them compete at the highest level. I am impressed with how things have changed; how basketball has grown from one region to the entire nation,” he said.
On Sunday, action will continue as Leopards in the second division are expected to welcome Atlantic Thunders at 13h00, followed by a match between Osona Braves and Unam Vipers at 14h30.
Unam Penguin head coach Linda Melusi said Saturday’s tie is a match they should win. “I think the boys are ready, I hope they win the match because its a do or die match. If we lose, we let Nust go on top, and we won’t want to risk that at all. Both teams are strong and are raring to go,” said Melusi.
Unam Raiders will take on Plaza Warriors at 16h00, while there will be a tie between Lions BC and NUST Gladiators in what is expected to be the match to watch this weekend.
