Africa-Press – Namibia. OF the 460 new positive Covid-19 cases reported in the last 24-hour cycle, 99 were from the ||Kharas region and 98 from Omaheke.
This constitutes 21.5% and 21.3% respectively of all newly confirmed cases from 1 650 test results.
The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, said although a gradual decrease in the number of tests results was observed, the 27.9% positivity ratio suggests transmission remains high.
Of the new cases, 342 are unvaccinated, accounting for 74.3%.
“We urge all those that have symptoms consistent with Covid-19 to go for testing to know their status and take extra precautions to further reduce infection of others,” he said.
One Covid-19 related death was reported from the Lüderitz district. A 49-year-old male with serious co-morbidities died at a health facility on 24 December. He was not vaccinated.
Of the new cases in ||Kharas, 62 were reported from Lüderitz, 27 from Karasburg and ten from Keetmanshoop. In Omaheke, all 98 cases were reported from Gobabis.
In Erongo, 52 cases were reported from Swakopmund, 33 from Walvis Bay and one from Omaruru.
The gender distribution of new cases is 265 males and 195 females. The ages range from two months to 81 years.
Among the confirmed cases are 30 learners, six teachers, ten students and 11 healthcare workers from different institutions.
Thirteen cases have received one dose of the vaccine, 62 cases are fully vaccinated, two have received booster shots (three doses), while 41 vaccinated cases did not specify the number of doses received. The number of active cases is now at 14 289, while hospitalized cases remain at 329 across 13 regions, of which 28 are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
Ten of the hospitalized cases have received one dose of the vaccine and 41 are fully vaccinated. The remainder 278 patients, who constitute 84.5%, are not vaccinated. Two cases in ICU are fully vaccinated and 26 (92.8%) are unvaccinated.
By 25 December, a total of 403 430 people have received one dose of the vaccine, representing 26.9% of the target population, including 1 711 children aged 12 to 17 years.
A total of 104 344 have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is administered as one dose, while 237 263 adults had received two doses of other vaccines.
Therefore, 341 607 have completed the vaccination, translating to 22.8% of the target population.
In addition, 4 435 people have received a booster dose.
