Africa-Press – Namibia. KUKU Petra Nakwenye Aluvilu Ameya, the mother of SWAPO Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa who recently passed away, was described by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as a mother, a matriarch, a pillar of faith, and a true daughter of the soil whose life touched many.

The President attended the funeral service at the late Petra’s home village of Ohama Yaashuunda in the Outapi Constituency.

According to the President, the passing of Kuku Petra leaves a silence where there was once a vibrant voice of experience, wisdom and guidance.

“Today,” she said, “we bid farewell to a woman whose footsteps were guided by her steadfast Christian faith. She lived with humility, kindness, and a spirit of service that uplifted all who encountered her. Her devotion to God shaped her character and anchored her life in values that strengthened not only her family, but her entire community.”

President Nandi-Ndaitwah said that Kuku Petra made a meaningful contribution to the liberation struggle, and that her moral and spiritual strength supported many during difficult times.

The President also highlighted that as a mother, the late Kuku Petra raised a leader — Sophia Shaningwa — who continues to serve the SWAPO Party and the nation with dedication and resilience.

“The values she instilled — discipline, love, hard work, and faith — are evident in the character and leadership of her daughter, our Secretary General,” she said.

Kuku Petra belonged to that remarkable generation of mothers who carried the weight of Namibia’s history in their everyday acts of courage and compassion, said President Nandi-Ndaitwah, adding: “As we say our final farewell, may her legacy remind us of the power of faith, the strength of humility, and the enduring influence of a mother’s love. May her memory continue to inspire her family and all of us who had the privilege of knowing her story.”
