Africa-Press – Namibia. LADY Pohamba hospital has announced that due to the low turnout, the private hospital will no longer be receiving members of the public who wish to get vaccinated against Covid-19. The hospital also cleared up recent statements circulating on social media that the hospital is contemplating banning unvaccinated patients.
Hannelie Botha, the managing director of the private hospital, explained that the decision to close the Covid-19 vaccination wing was made in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
“The vaccination centre closed due to the fact that there was a low turnout of people per day. As such, the hospital decided that it would be best to focus its resources on acute care,” Botha said.
She added that another contributing factor to the vaccination centre closing was the fact that government has rolled out more vaccination facilities throughout the country.
In recent weeks, Namibians have been engaged in hot debates about whether or not unvaccinated people should be banned from public spaces, as well as business premises.
In the last Covid-19 presidential briefing, Attorney-General, Festus Mbandeka, stated that businesses would be well within their rights to ban unvaccinated people from their premises as the labour law provides onus upon employers to provide a safe and healthy work environment for its clients as well as employees alike. Botha, however, clarified that the hospital has no intention of imposing such restrictions on unvaccinated patients as it has an open-door policy.
