Lotteries Board members appointed

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) on Wednesday appointed the new Lotteries Board members, with Michael Mutonga as chairperson and Tabitha Mbome as his deputy. The other members are Herlinde Paulino Alcock, Immanuel !Hanabeb, Charlotte Kapose and Wycliff Shililifa. They will serve for three years.

According to MEFT deputy minister Heather Sibungo, the board will oversee the industry and take charge of the lotteries business activities in Namibia. She urged the members to conduct the business of the Lotteries Board with complete dedication in the service of the Namibian government and public at large.

Mutonga said they will deliver as required. “I expect fellow members to put together all the knowledge they have as a team to make their tenure a success,” he said, adding that they cannot run the board without understanding corporate governance, as they have seen organisations getting into conflicts.

He said a performance review will be done every three months to determine if measures are implemented and to monitor activities. “This review is not to find mistakes among the staff members but find to find problems and solve them as a team,” he added.

Mutonga said a lotteries awareness campaign will be conducted. “We need to make the nation aware of the good and bad of lotteries, as it can destroy relations if it is not controlled.”
