Africa-Press – Namibia. COUNCILLOR Benjamin Mckay of the Popular Democratic Movement has been elected as chairperson and the new mayor of Lüderitz Town Council, replacing councillor Anna-Marie Hartzenberg.

Councillor Brigitte Fredericks has been elected as deputy mayor.

The Lüderitz Town Council held its annual elections and swearing-in ceremony of the Lüderitz Local Authority councillors on Tuesday, as required by the Local Authorities Act 23 of 1993.

The elections were presided over by principal magistrate Leonard Mateus.

Councillor Phillips Balhao of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has been elected as chairperson of the management committee, with councillors Albertina Nakale and Hartzenberg.

Balhao served as a member of the management committee before being elected chairperson, taking over from fellow IPC councillor Nakale.

Councillors Johannes Abraham and Josephine Heita will serve as ordinary councillors.
