Africa-Press – Namibia. A 23-YEAR-OLD man was arrested while trying to sell pieces of elephant tusks at Hayisisira village in Kavango West Region. According to Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) spokesperson Romeo Muyunda, the suspect was found with two pieces of broken elephant tusk while looking for buyers.
“A quick operation was conducted by the police in the region and led to the arrest of the suspect after he showed the products to undercover police officials,” Muyunda said.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday around 21:00 while trying to sell the pieces for which he had no documentation from the MEFT permitting him to possess and sell such products.
He was charged with possession of controlled wildlife products and trade. The man is expected to appear before the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Police investigation continues.
