Africa-Press – Namibia. BEATRICE Masilingi failed to qualify for the 200m final when she came last in the second semifinal at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States on Tuesday.
Masilingi seemed to pick up an injury as she eased up and started to slow down by the 100m mark to finish well off the pace in 24,78 seconds.
Tamara Clark of the United States won the heat in 21,95 seconds followed by Dina Asher Smith of Great Britain in 21,96, with Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica third in 21,97.
Clark and Asher Smith qualified directly for the final while Thompson-Herah also qualified as one of the two fastest third-placed athletes.
Shericka Jackson of Jamaica won the first semifinal in a blistering time of 21,67, followed by Aminatou Seyni of Nigeria in 22,04 and Mujinga Kambundji of Switzerland in 22,05.
Jackson and Seyni qualified directly for the final, while Kambundji qualified as one of the two fastest third-placed athletes.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica won the third semifinal in 21,82 followed by Abby Steiner of the United States in 22,15 and Favour Ofili of Nigeria in 22,30.
Only Fraser-Pryce and Steiner qualified for the final which will take place at 19h35 on Thursday, or 04h35 on Friday Namibian time.
