Africa-Press – Namibia. LEO Matthysen of South Africa and his compatriot Johannes van Wijk will contest the final of the ITF J4 junior tennis tournament after winning their semifinal matches on Friday.
The top-seeded Matthysen beat the sixth seeded Calum Jestin of South Africa 6-4, 6-1 and will now meet the unseeded Van Wijk who beat the third seeded Jospeh Townes of South Africa 6-7, 7-5, 6-2.
The girls final will be contested between Celina Joseph of South Africa and Dune Vaissaud of France.
The seventh seeded Joseph beat her fifth seeded compatriot Erin McKenzie 6-3, 6-3, while the third seeded Vaissaud beat the second seeded Tayla Wilmot of South Africa 6-2, 6-4.
Meanwhile, the doubles finals were contested on Friday, with the top seeded pair of Matthysen and Benedict Badza of Zimbabwe beating Hayden Loffler of Swaziland and Jovan Lubbe of SA 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 to take the title.
The top seeded girls pair of Vaissaud and Wilmot won the girls title on a walkover after their opponents, Sasha Chimedza of Zimbabwe and Sophia Fuller of SA withdrew due to an injury to the former.
Saturday’s singles finals will start at 0830 at the Central Tennis Courts in Olympia.
