Mbangu promises to be ‘voice of the people’

Africa-Press – Namibia. Swapo Party candidate Lucas Mbangu says his mission is simple and clear, he wants to become the bridge that finally connects the people of Rundu Rural constituency with the government.

Mbangu is set to face off against the current councillor and independent candidate, Paulus Mbangu, in the regional council and local authority elections scheduled for next week.“I am going to be the bridge between the government and the people. Whatever cries my people have, I shall have those needs catered for by engaging the responsible ministries. Our people are crying, but most times they don’t get their problems attended to by the people who are in office,” he said during a recent interview. Mbangu said that if elected, he intends to tackle the long-standing issues that have continued to affect communities in the constituency. One of these, he noted, is the shortage of schools, which has made learning difficult for many children. He added that a significant number of residents still live without proper identification documents.

“There are so many challenges that our constituency is facing. After 35 years of independence, there are still many individuals who are not documented. They have lived here in Namibia for all these years but have no documents to show whether they were born here or are immigrants and that is making life hard for our people,” he said.

“Another issue I have recognised is the lack of enough schools, which leaves students overcrowded in certain areas, making learning very difficult. In some cases, due to inadequate classrooms, children are left at home because they cannot be admitted to school,” he added.

Asked why he believes he is the best candidate for the constituency, Mbangu pointed to the internal vetting process he underwent within his party.

“I went through a party vetting process, and after successfully contesting against another member, I came out victorious which says a lot about my candidacy. The people themselves have chosen me, so I believe I am the perfect candidate to lead the people of Kavango East rural into the promised land,” he said.
