Africa-Press – Namibia. CHRISTINE Mboma, Namibia’s current golden girl and world and African record holder for several sprint events, this week received a warm welcome at her home village, Mbwata in the Ndiyona constituency, where she returned after seven months away conquering the world.
The 18-year-old Mboma reunited with her father, grandmother and her two siblings. The family collectively expressed their excitement to see her back home, where she will spend time before she starts training again for the new athletic season.
Mboma won a silver medal in the women’s 200m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and therefore became only the second Namibian athlete ever to win an Olympic medal.
Her recent participation in the women’s 200m final at Wanda Diamond League held at the Weltklasse meeting in Zurich also resulted in yet another world junior record for Mboma, her time of 21.78 was a world under-20, as well as African record.
At age 18, she set an unratified African senior and world under-20 record in the 400 metres, which made her the 7th fastest woman of all time at the event with the 12th fastest result ever.
With a total score of 1455, Mboma is also currently ranked as number one on the World Athletics women’s 200m world rankings, ahead of Jamaican stars, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah.
