Africa-Press – Namibia. HUAWEI Technologies Namibia has donated Media and Information Technology (IT) equipment valued at N$900,000 to Oshigambo High School in the Oshikoto Region and Dr Mbamba High School in the Kavango East Region.
The equipment was handed over by President Nangolo Mbumba, who expressed gratitude to Huawei and highlighted the urgent need for IT teaching aids and equipment in these regions.
“Having been a teacher and school principal in my earlier life, I was more than pleased when during my discussions with the Huawei Technologies Namibia representatives, they informed me of the type of corporate responsibility which they carry out in countries where they operate, particularly in the education sector through information technology. So, I asked them whether they could assist some of our schools that are struggling with IT teaching aids,” President Mbumba said.
He urged the regional education directors, school board chairpersons, and principals in Oshikoto and Kavango East to ensure the equipment is properly maintained and effectively utilised to enhance students’ technological skills.
“This is the first step in the right direction to encourage technology know-how, innovation, and creativity in our schools through teaching aids which Huawei Namibia has donated, to the value of N$ 900 000. I trust this will be the beginning of a wonderful relationship between Huawei and our education sector and would hopefully be replicated in more other schools in future,” the president said.
