Africa-Press – Namibia. The new minister in the Presidency, Charles Mubita, was appointed as deputy minister of defence and veterans affairs in March 2025.

Upon his appointment, he told the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation he would draw on his experiences in exile in his position.

Mubita was a former freedom fighter of the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia.

He was also a former rector of the Swapo Party School, a position he assumed in 2023. He has previously worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Namibia and the International University of Management.

Hilma Nicanor, who has been appointed as an adviser at the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, has previously served as deputy minister of this ministry under former president Hifikepunye Pohamba.

She was a member of parliament in the National Assembly, and was elected to the National Council as a member for the ||Kharas region for three consecutive terms between 2004 and 2020.

Hambeleleni Ndjaleka, the new deputy minister of health and social services, is a !Nami≠Nus constituency councillor and was re-elected last November.

She is also a former mayor of Lüdertiz, a former board chairperson of the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust, and has held several positions at education centres at the harbour town.

She is on the advisory board of the Lüderitz Blue School, a private international school, and has previously served as a centre manager at two local training institutions – the Namibian Maritime and Fisheries Institute and the Community Skills Development Centre.

Edward Wambo, the new deputy minister of home affairs, immigration, safety and security, is the long-serving Rehoboth Urban East constituency councillor.

Hans Haikali, the new deputy minister of works and transport, is currently the regional councillor of the Etayi constituency in the Omusati region. He first ran for regional councillor in 2020.

Deputy minister of information and communication technology Wenzel Kavaka was re-elected as Otjombinde constituency councillor in the Omaheke region in 2025.

Anselm Marungu, the new deputy minister of environment and tourism, is the councillor for the Ndonga Linena constituency.

He has been the long-serving secretary of the Swapo Party Youth League in the Kavango East region, and was previously a board member of the National Youth Council.

Moses //Khumub, the deputy minister in the Office of the Vice President, made national news when he was elected as Guinas constituency councillor in the Oshikoto region – winning against his brother – last November.

Theresia Brandt, the deputy minister of justice and labour relations, is currently the national councillor of the Dâures constituency in the Erongo region.
