Africa-Press – Namibia. OKAKARARA and Paresis secondary schools emerged as the winners of an inaugural sport event hosted by Monica Geingos Secondary School at the Mokati stadium in Otjiwarongo last weekend.
OKAKARARA and Paresis secondary schools emerged as the winners of an inaugural sport event hosted by Monica Geingos Secondary School at the Mokati stadium in Otjiwarongo last weekend.
The aim of the tournament was to revive soccer and netball at schools and give a chance to the youth to develop their talents and skills.
Schools from various regions participated in the tournament, such as Khomas and Erongo, although Otjozondjupa region was represented by the most schools.
Okakarara won the soccer trophy, N$8 000 and gold medals after beating Chairman Mao Zedong High School from Windhoek in the final, with the latter receiving N$5 000 and silver medals.
Okakarara won the final 3-2 with Mundjambi Karondore scoring two goals and Daniel Johannes one, while Kooper Gregorius replied for Chairman Mao Zedong.
Duinesig Secondary School from Walvis Bay came third and received N$2 000 and bronze medals.
Ezikiel Vazeu Hevike of Okakarara was the player of the tournament, Kooper Gregorius of Chairman Mao Zedong was the top goal scorer, and Denzil Shafetango of Duinesig Secondary School was the top goal keeper.
Paresis Secondary School won the netball trophy, gold medals and N$2 500, after beating Okakarara Secondary School 18-14 in the final, while the runner-ups received silver medals and N$1 500, and the third-placed Coblenz Combined School bronze medals and N$1 000.
The main sponsor was Rocco Kauta of Cathral Investments Fifty Eight (Pty) Ltd.
