More border crossing points needed in Zambezi, says Sampofu

Africa-Press – Namibia. TO extend essential services to those in need, proper facilities such as offices and staff accommodations are crucial, said Lawrence Sampofu, the Governor of the Zambezi Region. Sampofu was speaking at the inauguration of new immigration offices and staff housing at Kasika and Impalila Island in the Kabbe South Constituency on Friday.

The event featured Minister Albert Kawana as the keynote speaker.

In his welcoming remarks, Sampofu emphasized that the Zambezi Region’s geographical position poses unique challenges for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security. He highlighted the importance of establishing infrastructure to ensure the safety of residents and migrants in the area.

The new facilities are strategically located in a region where people frequently cross borders to and from Angola, Zambia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. Sampofu said that setting up crossing points in “hotspot areas” would help reduce illegal crossings and related cross-border criminal activities.

He further pointed out that the vastness and porous nature of the borders in the region necessitate identifying more crossing points to support social and economic activities in the area.
