Africa-Press – Namibia. MINISTER of Works and Transport John Mutorwa officially commissioned light rehabilitation of the Onhuno-Eenhana road in the Ohangwena region recently.

The project, to be done in phases, will cost over N$20 million and was awarded to UNIK Construction Engineering Namibia. Mutorwa was on a two-day work visit to inspect the road conditions in the Ohangwena Region.

He cautioned communities and leaders not to fight the contractors, who are contracted to carry out work and services by the government, as it delays progress and services.

“There have been many incidents where communities, traditional leaders and political leaders have been fighting contractors especially for the material to be used in construction of road projects,” he said.

“If you encounter a problem, please don’t attack the contractor, who is just an employee sent by and who works on behalf of the Government. If you have a problem, communicate to your leaders, talk to your councillors, governors and other leaders, don’t fight them,” he added.

Mutorwa said the disputes have resulted in unnecessary delays and make way for even the incompetent contractors to have reasons and excuses for the delays, even when they would have failed due to their own incompetence.

The Onhuno-Eenhana road is a stretch of 47 kilometres that connects the two towns. Currently, it is in a devastating state as it has reached its lifespan.

The region has some of the poorest road networks in the country especially in the eastern parts. Hence, the light rehabilitation is done to preserve and improve the condition of the road to ensure the safety of motorists.
