Africa-Press – Namibia. The Namibia Bus and Taxi Association (Nabta) has asked the Ministry of Works and Transport to authorise an increase of taxi fares from N$13 to N$15 per journey.
In a media statement, Nabta’s national secretary, Pendapala Nakathingo, said the proposed fare increase was a result of fuel price increases.
“The fuel price is becoming critical and it requires efforts of any kind leading to an urgent and long-term solution,” Nakathingo said.
He added that the increase in taxi fares would not affect passengers as it includes benefits to bus and taxi drivers.
Ministry of Works and Transport spokesperson Julius Ngweda has confirmed that the ministry has received the letter from Nabta.
