Africa-Press – Namibia. Namibian Police deputy inspector general major general Anne-Marie Nainda will be contesting for the presidency of Interpol in November.

National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi announced this in a media statement on Wednesday, which centred on the ongoing 27th Interpol African Regional Conference that started on the same day in Cape Town, South Africa.

Interpol is the world’s largest international police organisation, consisting of about 195 member countries working together to combat international crime.

The conference, themed ‘Leveraging Cooperation, Innovation, and Partnerships to fight Transnational Organised Crime’, is being attended by the heads of criminal investigations, legal services, public relations and other divisions, and is set to conclude on Friday.

Shikwambi during the opening session said the President of Interpol , major general Ahmed Naser Al-Rais, urged police chiefs to be vocal to ensure strong support in the battle against organised crime.

“Words will strengthen the support in the fight against transnational organised crime,” he said, before highlighting Interpol’s past successes and commending Africa for its support during his presidency.

“I must also highlight that major general Anne-Marie Nainda, deputy inspector general for administration, will be contesting for the position of Interpol president during the 93rd session of the Interpol general assembly,” Shikwambi said.

The assembly is scheduled to take place from 24 to 27 November 2025 in Marrakech, Morocco.

“Her candidacy was initially recommended by the Southern African Development Community and the Chiefs of Police Sub-Committee/Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation at its annual general meeting held in Dar-es-Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania, from 5 to 6 June 2025,” Shikwambi added.

She said the Namibian team has already commenced campaign activities, which include introducing the deputy inspector general’s candidacy to other member states.
