Africa-Press – Namibia. THE National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) of Namibia and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen research collaboration between the two countries.
“Signing this MoU at the Global Research Council underscores our joint commitment to building a cohesive African research ecosystem capable of delivering globally relevant impacts,” Professor Anicia Peters, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NCRST, said.
The NCRST revealed that the five-year MoU marks a significant step forward in strengthening science and innovation partnerships across the continent.
The areas of collaboration include joint research calls addressing shared priorities in energy, digital health, agro-food systems, and space science. It also covers researcher, student, and staff exchanges, with access to advanced research infrastructure and support systems. In addition, the MoU will see the two entities collaborating on capacity-building through the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) and international networks, bilateral research chairs hosted at institutions in both countries, as well as joint researcher rating and award mechanisms to recognise research excellence.
“Through this partnership, we will accelerate cutting-edge research and cultivate the next generation of researchers and scientists across our continent,” Dr Fulufhelo Nelwamondo, CEO of NRF, said.
