NAMIBIA is seeking to strengthen trade and investment ties with Malaysia, with Minister of International Relations and Trade Selma Ashipala-Musavyi calling for deeper economic cooperation and strategic partnerships during a two-day working visit to Kuala Lumpur.

Speaking at the Namibia–Malaysia Business Forum on 20 April 2026, Ashipala-Musavyi urged Malaysian investors to explore opportunities in Namibia’s key growth sectors, including green energy, manufacturing, agro-processing, and mineral beneficiation, as the country moves to transition from a resource-based economy to a value-added industrial hub.

She highlighted Namibia’s strategic position as a gateway to Southern Africa, offering access to a regional market of over 380 million people, supported by political stability, investor-friendly policies, and expanding infrastructure such as the port of Walvis Bay.

“Africa is no longer the continent of tomorrow; it is the continent of now,” she said, encouraging investors to take advantage of emerging opportunities in Namibia’s evolving economy.

The forum brought together government officials, business leaders, and investors from both countries, providing a platform to enhance trade, investment, and technical cooperation.

During her visit, Ashipala-Musavyi also held bilateral meetings with key Malaysian officials. In a courtesy call with Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, discussions focused on environmental sustainability and natural resource management, with both sides exploring ways to strengthen cooperation in these areas.

She further met with Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamad Hasan, where the two ministers discussed expanding trade and investment and reinforcing longstanding bilateral relations rooted in historical ties dating back to Namibia’s liberation struggle.

The visit forms part of Namibia’s broader efforts to deepen international partnerships and promote economic growth through increased foreign investment and cooperation.
