Africa-Press – Namibia. Namibia will next week attend meetings to strengthen partnerships with China.
Representatives will be attending the Ministerial Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (Focac), as well as the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (Caete) in Changsha from 11 to 15 June.
The delegation, comprising members of the public and private sectors, will be led by minister of international relations and cooperation Selma Ashipala-Musavyi.
“The Namibian delegation will seek to deepen strategic partnerships with China by promoting economic diversification, infrastructure development, sustainable resource management, and regional integration,” the ministry stated in a recent announcement.
The upcoming meeting marks Focac’s 25th anniversary and will review what progress has been made on the goals established previously, as well as identify actions that need to be taken to progress further.
It will be attended by China’s foreign minister Wang Yi, alongside representatives of the 54 African member states of Focac.
“Since its establishment in 2000, Focac has served as Africa’s premier multilateral cooperation framework with China facilitating dialogue on infrastructure financing, technology transfer, health, education, and environmental sustainability,” the statement says.
Experts suggest the main focus of the meeting will be the widening trade imbalance between China and Africa.
African imports to China are dropping while trade in the opposite direction continue to surge.
Discussions will likely be focused on creating a more balanced partnership.
