Africa-PressNamibia. THE consignment of 108 000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine bought by the Namibian Government with the aid of the African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team, has arrived in Namibia.

The Deputy Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Petronella Masabane, confirmed the arrival of the one-shot vaccine in Namibia. According to Masabane, the consignment will be distributed throughout Namibia over the next week.

“Vaccination points in all regions will be provided with the Johnson & Johnson available by next Monday. The Khomas Region will have it available within the next two days,” she said.

The 108 000 doses are part of 333 333 doses acquired through the African Union’s African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team, which leaves 225 333 of the doses that still need to be delivered in Namibia.

The country is also still awaiting 302 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that was pledged by the Government of the United States of America. The Namibian health authority is also still awaiting 40 800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine that was acquired through the COVAX Facility of the United Nations.

The more than 40 000 doses are the remainder of the 108 400 that government paid for so far. Also still outstanding are 350 000 doses of the SinoPharm vaccine acquired from the manufacturer in China.
