Africa-Press – Namibia. ONDONGA King Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo wants linkage between Namibia and Angola Traditional Authorities for better service delivery to the people.
King Nangolo made the request during the visit by Angola’s vice-president Bornito de Sousa Baltazar Diogo on Saturday.
He asked if Angola had any traditional leaders and whether they were recognized by the government.
Traditional leadership in Namibia is a governing structure based on the ethnicity of the indigenous people of the territory. There are 53 recognized traditional authorities.
Diogo stated that they have over 4 000 traditional leaders in Angola, with a process of organizing them being started.
“Indeed, it is really important for the two countries’ traditional leaders to keep in touch for the benefit of the masses,” he said.
He indicated that they want to organize them properly, as there are some of the leaders who were appointed during the colonial government and those politically appointed.
Diogo emphasized that for now, they are unable to separate them unless well organized by the government.
He added that currently, all traditional leaders are on government pay cards.
