Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA made history in Windhoek on Saturday, defeating South Africa by four wickets in a thrilling T20 encounter that went down to the final ball. The hosts chased down a target of 135, finishing on 138 for 6, to seal a famous victory in front of a jubilant home crowd.
South Africa, batting first, were restricted to 134 for 8 in their 20 overs as Namibia’s bowlers produced a disciplined performance to keep the visitors’ powerful batting line-up in check.
In response, Namibia’s chase wavered with regular wickets, but the middle order held firm. Wicketkeeper-batter Zane Green anchored the innings with a crucial unbeaten 30 off 23 balls, steering his side home with a boundary off the final delivery. His composure under pressure turned out to be the difference, especially after struggling initially to find rhythm before accelerating in the closing overs.
South Africa’s went from bad to worse after Gerald Coetzee left the field with a suspected pectoral muscle injury, disrupting their bowling plans. The visitors also struggled with discipline, conceding 10 wides and two no-balls, which ultimately proved costly.
The victory sparked jubilant celebrations as Namibia marked the inauguration of Windhoek’s new cricket stadium—built for the 2027 Cricket World Cup—with a landmark win over their Test-playing neighbours.
Despite South Africa’s fielding a revamped squad led by Donovan Ferreira, featuring veteran Quinton de Kock in his return to T20Is, South Africa fell short as Namibia sealed one of the most memorable victories in their cricketing history.
