Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Global African Hydrogen Summit (GAH2S) will take place in Windhoek next week, with more than 700 global delegates expected to attend.
The Green Hydrogen Commissioner, James Mnyupe, revealed that the summit will take place from Tuesday, 3 September, to Thursday, 5 September. The GAH2S will be held under the theme “From Ambition to Action: Fueling Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution.”
“Supported by the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Namibia and organised in partnership with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme, this event promises to be a game-changer for Africa’s green energy landscape,” the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme (NGH2P), an initiative under the Ministry of Mines and Energy aimed at advancing Namibia’s position in the global green hydrogen ecosystem, explained.
NGH2P revealed that the summit will bring together over 700 delegates from across the world, including heads of state, ministers, industry leaders, investors, and experts.
“The goal is clear: positioning Africa as a key player in the global hydrogen market and creating new sustainable growth and innovation opportunities. The event will feature a packed agenda, including masterclasses, leadership dialogues, a strategic conference, and exhibitions,” NGH2P explained.
NGH2P also revealed that there will be an innovation session with over 100 young participants invited to participate free of charge to explore how the next generation can shape the future of green energy. NGH2P added that the summit will also provide a platform for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and academic institutions to showcase their latest research and developments in the hydrogen space.
“Namibia’s Vice President, H.E. Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, is expected to open the event officially. Key moments of the summit include participating countries’ spotlight sessions, where nations like Namibia, South Africa, Mauritania, Morocco, Egypt, and Kenya will share their progress in advancing hydrogen strategies,” NGH2P said.
NGH2P highlighted that, for Namibia, the event will be an opportunity to highlight efforts in decarbonising the transport industry, policy advancements, and significant progress in funding, infrastructure, and international collaborations.
“Namibia is also expected to make significant announcements during the summit, with more than half a billion Namibian dollars in new funding anticipated for the hydrogen sector. This will mark a critical step in unlocking Africa’s potential in the global hydrogen industry, driving sustainable energy solutions and economic growth across the continent,” NGH2P announced.
NGH2P also revealed that, after the summit concludes, some of the visiting delegates will take a road trip to witness and sightsee different Namibia Green Hydrogen projects on Friday, 6 September.
“For Namibia, the Global African Hydrogen Summit represents more than just an event – it is a powerful movement towards a greener, more equitable energy future. Join us in Windhoek this September as we make history together,” NGH2P added.
