Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA will be the second INTERPOL member country in Southern Africa, after Botswana, to join the INTERPOL Global Academy Network with the aim of collaborating with INTERPOL and other members of the network and providing training to Namibian police officers.
Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, Namibian police chief, said that the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College was selected to join the INTERPOL Global Academy.
“The Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College (IPIPC) is an entity under public national law in Namibia, aimed at providing quality training and capacity-building programs that are responsive to contemporary policing demands. The college is situated in Windhoek, Khomas Region, and it is named after one Namibian gallant freedom fighter, the late Israel Patrick Iyambo, well known by the combat name as ‘Lunganda.’ IPIPC was officially inaugurated on the 28th May 1998 by His Excellency Dr. Sam Nujoma, the first President of the Republic of Namibia and founding father of the Nation,” Shikongo said, giving a background on the college.
He added that the INTERPOL Global Academy is an outstanding knowledge-sharing hub for Law Enforcement experts and researchers. “The network fosters collaboration between Law Enforcement agencies and academic institutions and further promotes scientific initiatives in policing science and other relevant fields of expertise. These unique partnerships can lead to technical breakthroughs and professional innovations as well as evidence-based trainings and set good practices for Police Academies and Law Enforcement Education institutions that have a regional or international scope to add value to the existing network,” Shikongo said.
He added Namibia joined the INTERPOL Global Academy Network with the aim of collaborating with INTERPOL and other members of the network on activities such as: Develop and deliver joint trainings; offer courses for Network members and INTERPOL member countries; develop joint projects in applied research and collaborate with INTERPOL and the Network on other relevant topics such as the co-organization of events or training recognitions.
“The challenges we face in the 21st century are complex and dynamic, requiring a concerted effort to stay ahead of those who seek to undermine the safety and security of our communities. The INTERPOL Global Academy provides a unique platform for our officers to access cutting-edge training, share best practices, and build relationships with their counterparts from around the world. In joining this academy, we affirm our dedication to equipping our law enforcement officers with the skills and knowledge necessary to address the evolving nature of crime,” Shikongo said.
