OSHIPAXU, Omambungu and Puppets are just a few of the names given to the Eloolo Men and Women Network situated at the Iilagati village in Oshana Region because they use their own resources to assist the Namibian Police in their combat against crime in various communities.

The Chairperson of the network, Johanna Munangobe said members of the network remains determined to root out crime in their community despite the name-calling.

Munangobe pointed that those that call them all sorts of names go as far as threatening them because they inform NamPol of crimes in their communities.

“They say we are stupid idiots in the network for not getting paid,” she said.

In 2012, two of the network members were viciously attacked by a gang of youths known at the time as “Otolopola.” The duo was hacked with axes while at their homes.

“We use to be scared of staying home, as the group used to break into our houses to steal and cause all sort of havoc,” she added.

She noted that NamPol had at the time arrested seven members of the gang that attacked network members.

Oshana Regional Commander, Commissioner Rauha Amwele warned those people that threaten, use vulgar language, insulting and giving members of the Eloolo Men and Women network to desist immediately.

Amwele singled out the people from the Haiyandja cuca shops, saying that they must stop or face the law.

“I know that those are lawless citizens and anyone who is going to continue insulting members of the network will face criminal charges,” she said.

She noted that the police are ready to register criminal cases against anyone.

Amwele urged all network members to remain courageous when dealing with the criminal element in communities in their effort to combat crimes.
