Africa-Press – Namibia. IF invitations for tenders by large corporate entities NamPower and Debmarine Namibia are anything to go by, the country’s construction sector could be awakening from the doldrums.

The two companies have invited tenders and expressions of interest from Namibian companies to provide construction services at various sites. In an advertisement published in the media yesterday, Debmarine is inviting experienced Namibian building contractors to submit pre-qualification bids for the Namdeb Centre upgrade at the company’s Frans Indongo Street offices in Windhoek.

The submission of bids for this tender closes on 25 March. NamPower is also inviting qualified and competent companies to submit bids for a number of construction projects in different parts of the country.

The power utility wants to construct medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) networks at Vergenoeg in the //Kharas region. “It also wants to construct MV and LV networks supplying the Swartdam locality in the Hardap region, and another MV and LV network supplying Goreses in the Omaheke region,” the advertisement says.

Other MV and LV networks planned will supply Matende in the Kavango West region, and power various localities in the Ohangwena region, as well as Mbore in the Kavango West region.

The power utility also wants to construct MV an LV networks supplying power to Oshikango extensions 1 and 7, networks supplying various localities in Kavango East, as well as networks supplying various localities in the Kavango West region.

In addition to construction, NamPower invites a company to review the parastatal’s conditions of employment and organisational structure. Also issuing a tender was the Roads Authority Employee Retirement Fund which requires the services of consultants to assist the fund in complying with the Financial Institutions and Market Act f 2021.

“Tender documents can be collected from 9 March to 21 April, and the closing date is 22 April 2022,” said the advertisement. Debmarine also advertised for the expression of interest in providing creative services covering concept development and graphic design services.

“The company also wants providers of social media management services, sport management, corporate gifts services, photography services, videography services, event management services, exhibition spaces, corporate apparel, signage production and consulting engineers for social investment projects,” said the company in the advertisement, stating that the closing date is 11 March.

According to the recently released Bank of Namibia economic outlook for 2022, the construction sector is expected to remain in contraction in 2022 before recovering to growth in 2023.

“The construction sector is expected to contract by 2% in 2022 before expanding by 2,5% in 2023. The projected contraction in 2022 is a moderation from 19,2% in 2021, and marks the seventh year of consecutive contractions for the sector,” read the outlook update. The sector is projected to create value worth N$2,7 billion this year.
