Africa-Press – Namibia. IN order to address the high number of reports on electrical shocks and vandalism of electrical infrastructure, NamPower, the national power utility, has launched the “Pasop Stay Safe” campaign in Mariental.
“Unfortunately, NamPower and its partners in electricity distribution continue to receive reports from the public regarding incidents of electrical shocks caused by contact with live electricity infrastructure. Incidences of vandalism, including copper theft, removal of components from electricity structures, and fires near or under electricity structures, also continue to rise,” NamPower stated in a press release.
The institution emphasized that these incidents urgently require attention, and as a responsible corporate citizen, NamPower has initiated a national public safety campaign aimed at providing electricity safety education and awareness to all Namibian citizens.
“One of the main reasons why educating our communities about electricity safety is important is due to the lack of knowledge that often leads to accidents. Many people do not understand the potential hazards of electricity and, as a result, fail to take necessary precautions. Educating our community about electricity safety is crucial as it empowers individuals to prevent accidents, some of which can be fatal,” explained NamPower.
The public enterprise further highlighted that such campaigns can help prevent accidents, injuries, and even deaths.
“Every Namibian has the right to live and work in a safe environment, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that we handle electricity with necessary precautions. We urge everyone to join hands with NamPower and support the campaign. Let’s spread the importance of electricity safety. Report any electricity hazards you encounter too (061) 205 2345,” concluded the entity.
