Nandi-Ndaitwah promises timely completion of Nkurenkuru Civic Affairs Office

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Vice President, Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has assured that – unlike the Nkurenkuru District Hospital, where construction has been halted – the construction of the Nkurenkuru Civic Affairs Regional Office will be completed within two years.

Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah made these remarks at the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Nkurenkuru Civic Affairs Regional Office, where she announced that construction will begin in August and is expected to be completed two years from then. She also urged the contractors to hire residents of the Kavango West Region in the construction of the project.

“What I’m groundbreaking here today is not a vision; it’s a reality. A reality in the sense that this office is going to be built,” she said.

This comes after the Governor of the Kavango West Region, Sirkka Ausiku, pointed out that the region was promised a district hospital in Nkurenkuru about ten years ago, which has yet to materialise.

Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged the region’s frustration about the hospital but assured that the government has not forgotten about the construction of the promised Nkurenkuru District Hospital either.

“I want to assure the residents of Kavango West that that hospital is not forgotten. I fully understand your frustration, and I can put myself in the same position. However, I want to assure you, you should not despair; your government will ensure that such a hospital is built as designed,” she said.

The Vice President also pointed out that, according to the Preliminary Report of the 2023 Housing and Population Census, the Kavango West Region’s population has increased by more than 30,000 between 2011 and 2023. She emphasised that this population growth necessitates accelerated infrastructure development in the region, starting with the much-needed Civic Affairs Office and including the promised district hospital.

“The Preliminary Report of the 2023 Housing and Population Census indicated that the population of the Kavango West Region has grown from 86,529 in 2011 to the current 123,266 in 2023. Therefore, these figures clearly tell us that as a government, we have to speed up the infrastructure development that will enable us to serve this fast-growing population of Kavango West. Therefore, the construction of the Civic Affairs Office here is critical for active services to be provided for this population, and definitely the same goes for the District Hospital,” Nandi-Ndaitwah added.
