PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called for unity, discipline and vigilance against misinformation within the SWAPO Party, while highlighting progress in youth empowerment and development initiatives, during the official opening of the party’s Central Committee meeting in Windhoek.

Addressing party leadership and members on Saturday at the Gateway Centre, Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasised that unity remains the party’s strongest asset, urging members to guard against internal divisions and external attempts to weaken cohesion through misinformation and disinformation.

The meeting comes shortly after the passing of Central Committee member James Uerikua and his son, with the President leading a moment of silence in their honour, describing Uerikua as a committed servant of the party.

Nandi-Ndaitwah also marked the SWAPO Party’s 66th anniversary, describing it as a testament to resilience, unity and dedication to Namibia’s liberation and development. She invited members and the public to attend the anniversary celebrations and the inauguration of the party’s new national headquarters.

The President stressed that while diversity of thought within the party is important, it must remain anchored in shared values and principles. She cautioned against individuals who use modern communication platforms to spread falsehoods and create division.

“We must remain focused and reject such efforts in the strongest terms,” she said.

Highlighting government progress under the 8th Administration, Nandi-Ndaitwah pointed to initiatives such as the operationalisation of the National Youth Development Fund and the full subsidisation of registration and tuition fees, aimed at expanding access to higher education and empowering young people.

She said these interventions demonstrate the party’s commitment to improving livelihoods and building a more equitable society, adding that such gains must be protected and effectively communicated.

The President further urged party leaders to remain disciplined, responsible and united in their conduct, noting that internal debates should strengthen rather than divide the movement.

“As Party leaders, we are charged with ensuring that the SWAPO Party remains strong, united and forward-looking,” she said.

She concluded by calling on members to recommit to the ideals of the liberation struggle and to work collectively towards shaping Namibia’s future.
