Africa-Press – Namibia. THE head of the Ondonga Traditional Authority, Omukwaniilwa Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo has welcomed the recent appointment of new regional police commanders for Oshana and Oshikoto, Commissioners Naftal Lungameni Sakaria and Theopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku respectively.
The two top cops paid a courtesy call to Nangolo seeking his blessings as they embark on the important job of maintaining law and order in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Nangolo also welcomed their offer to cooperate with the traditional authorities in preventing and combating crime.
“I am pleased that the two Commissioners are pledging to continue with the excellent working relationship that was established by their predecessors,” he said.
He explained that being a leader comes with responsibilities and the approach of the two regional commanders is a sign of true leadership.
Shuumbwa reminded the two police officers that being a commander does not mean that they are smarter than the people they are serving. Therefore, he advised them to remain open for the community’s input and to work as a team as they serve the people, delivering quality policing services.
The Oshikoto governor Penda Ya Ndakolo, who too was present at the Palace, urged the top cops to ensure that their subordinates do not interfere in political affairs but rather stick to policing.
Commissioner Sakaria expressed the need to strengthen stakeholders engagement as part of combating crime in the region.
On her part, Commissioner Kalompo-Nashikaku stressed the important role of traditional leaders in the fight against crime since they are directly in touch with the communities.
Nangolo’s area of jurisdiction covers three regions: Oshikoto, Oshana and Ohangwena.
