Nascam Sets New AGM Date

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Namibian Society of Composers and Authors of Music (Nascam) has announced the new date for their annual general meeting (AGM), which was postponed late last month after only 10 of an estimated 7 000 members registered for the meeting.

The AGM is now scheduled for 19 February, and according to Nascam board member Knowledge Ipinge, the election of new board members will be one of the highlights of the meeting.

“It is very important that Nascam members participate in this process and ensure that they elect the right people who they believe have the potential to steer the ship in the direction that they want.

“The chairperson’s report and the financial statements by the Nascam auditors remain some of the highlights for members to look forward to,” Ipinge says.

The meeting agenda is guided by Nascam’s constitution, and Ipinge adds that some primary and secondary sectors of the music industry, including the recorded music industry, music publishing industry, live music industry, music products industry, artist management industry, brand industry and media industry are virtually non-existent.

“Look at the structures in other industries and compare them to Namibia, then you will immediately realise that our challenges and problems are way bigger than Nascam as a collective management organisation,” he says. Moreover, Ipinge will be presenting a report as the chairperson of the artist advisory task force.

“The report on strategic interventions to establish a Namibian music office and relevant music bodies such as a recording industry body and relevant structures can act as support to Nascam and hold relevant music stakeholders accountable in a transparent manner,” he says.
