Nauyoma, Amushelelo remain in custody

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Affirmative Repositioning movement’s Dimbulukeni Nauyoma and Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters member Michael Amushelelo remain in police custody and are expected to appear in court on Monday.

Six other protesters linked to demonstrations at China Town were released yesterday evening on a warning, however, they will also be required to appear in court on Monday.

Police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi confirmed the release on a warning of the six people arrested on Friday, and that together with Amushelelo and Nauyoma, they are due to appear in court on Monday.

This comes after a police operation sparked by a shutdown of business activities at China Town on Thursday and Friday saw police firing rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse protestors.

Amushelelo handed himself over to the police early on Friday morning, after inspector general Sebastian Ndeitunga ordered his arrest on Thursday night.
