Africa-Press – Namibia. Army chief Martin Pinehas has commended the Namibian Defence Force for their dedication and professionalism in ensuring a befitting send-off for Founding President Sam Nujoma.

Nujoma died on 8 February, and was buried on 1 March at the Heroes’ Acre outside Windhoek.

Nujoma was honoured with memorial services in seven regions of the country under the auspices of the NDF.

Pinehas, speaking at a dinner held recently at Independence Museum in Windhoek, expressed appreciation for the collective efforts that ensured the mourning period and subsequent funeral were professionally executed, with dignity, honour and precision.

“Through strategic leadership, discipline and dedication, we ensured that the executive of the State Funeral upheld the highest standards of professionalism. A mission of this magnitude required the collaboration of many individuals and institutions,” Pinehas said.

He praised the preparatory committee, which oversaw all military and ceremonial aspects of the funeral.

“This committee worked tirelessly, demonstrating exceptional commitment and meticulous planning to ensure seamless coordination of events,” said Pinehas.

He also gave credit to the Y-9E aircraft crew for their technical expertise in transporting Nujoma’s remain across all seven regions in Namibia.
