Africa-Press – Namibia. RUHINDO Cisse, 30, was informed that he was among the three finalists in the Top Score Land Cruiser competition and was offered transport money from Otjiwarongo to Oshakati and back.
However, he told the organizers that they pay only N$300 for his trip to Oshakati. He was already sure that he would return to Otjiwarongo driving his brand new Land Cruiser.
Cisse is an Otjiwarongo-based member of the Namibian Defense Force (NDF).
Cisse, who could not contain his tears, entered the competition once after buying a 10kg Top Score maize meal.
“When I was told about the draw, I informed the organisers to just give me transport money to get to Oshakati. I had faith and hope that he was going to walk away with the Grand Prize,” he said.
Cisse pointed out that he had no intention of entering the competition, but after buying a bag of top score maize meal he took a chance to try his luck.
He was delighted and excited to win such a Grand prize weeks before Christmas.
The other two finalists, Audry Van Wyk from Rehoboth and Mikael Leonard from Gobabis, walked away with N$14 000 and N$4 000 respectively.
In September, Namib Mills launched a brand promotion campaign where 137 500 short message service (SMS) were received.
Each week there was a lucky winner who pocketed N$4 000, while one winner per month was given an amount of N$14 000.
The competition lasted 13 weeks.
Oshana regional governor Elia Irimari congratulated the winners and urged members of the public to always support local brands.
He said that if people don’t support local products nobody will do.
He stressed that Namibians should take pride in their own products at all times.
Oshakati Mayor Leonard Hango concurred with Irimari saying that Namibians should always strive to support and buy Namibian products.
He said that Namibians ought to be proud of their local products and take ownership thereof.
Brand manager for Top Score and Sugar King Shawapala Kandjabanga said that the aim was to plough back to the community, hence the three months campaign.
