Africa-Press – Namibia. The Omaheke Regional Council has procured and commissioned a new fleet of nine vehicles at the cost of N$4.5 million.

This is to enhance and accelerate service delivery across the region’s seven constituencies.

The newly-procured nine vehicles includes seven 4×4 bakkies and two sedans.

The regional council’s chairperson Ignatius Kariseb described said the cars are worthy and a timely investment to improve service delivery and the lives of the region’s inhabitants.

“Not only that, but these new vehicles will also help address long standing operational challenges and prove adequate and reliable transport for the institution. The cars will equally boost our ability to reach remote communities that are in need of government services, and for us to also monitor development projects and programmes in such areas,” he said.

Public service delivery is executed through different line ministries.

The Omaheke Regional Council coordinates the planning and development of programme activities in the region.

Most of the public offices in the region operate in Gobabis, though some are further decentralised at grassroots level in the various constituencies.

Omaheke region has seven constituencies: Otjombinde, Kalahari, Okorukambe, Epukiro, Gobabis, Otjinene and Aminuis.

The region has one town, Gobabis, and three village councils, which are Leonardville, Otjinene and Witvlei.

They are all proclaimed local authority areas.

When it comes to service delivery, rolling out of government programmes and making sure that no citizen is denied access to basic services, Kariseb maintained that the regional council remains strongly committed to those principles.

“Our aim is ensuring that no area or community remains unserved and unreached. With these new vehicles, our interventions and assistance to the people we serve will improve tenfold. As chairperson, I want to call on our regional council administrators to please make sure that a comprehensive internal transport policy is finalised and implemented without delay. The finalisation of the transport policy is important, as it will help with the management, utilisation and maintenance of all council vehicles,” he said.
