Africa-Press – Namibia. The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) campus in Lüderitz, //Kharas Region, has been officially inaugurated.
“The inauguration represents a significant stride in our nation’s pursuit of excellence in science and technology education, as well as our commitment to inclusive and sustainable development,” the Speaker of the National Assembly and Chancellor of NUST, Professor Peter Katjavivi, said.
The inauguration was held under the theme “Lens of the Future.” Katjavivi explained that the theme reflects NUST’s progressive outlook and its dedication to fostering a sustainable and innovative future, while also highlighting the campus’ crucial role in supporting Namibia’s green energy goals.
He revealed that the decision to establish a NUST campus in Lüderitz was made in 2009, with the government investing over N$100 million since then to bring the initiative to fruition. Katjavivi described the campus opening as a testament to the government’s collective efforts to address educational disparities and promote equitable opportunities throughout the country.
“The establishment of Lüderitz Campus acknowledges the unique potential of the region, its rich history and cultural heritage, and the promise it holds for future growth and development. This campus will not only serve Lüderitz but also surrounding areas, creating a ripple effect of educational empowerment,” Katjavivi added.
He explained that the NUST Lüderitz Campus intends to provide a dynamic environment for students to engage with cutting-edge technology and conduct research in vital fields of science and technology. He added that it will also act as a centre for research and community engagement, fostering partnerships between academia, industry, and local communities.
“This holistic approach ensures that the research conducted here is not only groundbreaking but also practical and scalable,” he added.
