New Oshikunde office makes educational services more accessible

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ohangwena Education Directorate on Wednesday officially inaugurated the Oshikunde Circuit office after years of operating from the Oshikunde constituency councillor’s office.

Education director Isak Hamatwi said the circuit was recently established and they saw a need to have an office to cut the travelling distance to schools in the Oshikunde constituency. “We just brought service closer to the people in terms of educational administration services.”

The office will serve about 23 schools within the Oshikunde Circuit that previously had to get educational services from as far as Okongo and Eenhana.

Hamatwi said the circuit serves as a channel of inquiry and communication for the schools without having to contact the directorate office “to log petty complaints that can be solved at the circuit level”.

“I don’t expect people to come straight to the director’s office with matters that can be resolved at the circuit. I should expect serious and challenging matters to be brought to my office when the circuit is also challenged,” he added.

The Oshikunde Circuit was established by retired inspector Penehafo Haidula in 2017, with office work carried out at the councillor’s office at the time.

The new office was constructed for N$1.5 million and fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture.
