ALGERIA has pledged to fully fund the construction of a medical polyclinic in Namibia, marking a significant boost to the country’s healthcare sector and strengthening longstanding bilateral ties between the two nations.

The development was confirmed during a meeting at State House on Sunday between President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Algeria’s Ambassador to Namibia, Abdelkrim Diaf. The engagement was also attended by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Esperance Luvindao.

During the meeting, Ambassador Diaf presented a framed plan of the proposed facility, formally conveying the Algerian government’s commitment to supporting Namibia’s health sector through the construction of the polyclinic.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah welcomed the initiative, describing it as a concrete outcome of the enduring relationship between Namibia and Algeria, rooted in a shared history of solidarity. She added that bilateral ties continue to grow, driven by mutual respect and cooperation.

The President also reflected on past engagements, including the 2008 Joint Commission discussions where health cooperation was prioritised, adding that the planned facility represents meaningful progress stemming from those commitments.

In addition, Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged Algeria’s ongoing support in education, revealing that more than 100 Namibians have benefited from study opportunities in Algeria, including recent placements earlier this year.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation, particularly in the areas of healthcare and human capital development
