New Swapo coordinator vows to strengthen party in Kunene

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE newly elected Kunene regional coordinator for Swapo, Klavius Kaujova, has vowed to restore the ruling party’s dominance in the region come next elections.

THE newly elected Kunene regional coordinator for Swapo, Klavius Kaujova, has vowed to restore the ruling party’s dominance in the region come next elections.

The ruling party lost most Kunene constituencies in the 2020 regional and local authority elections. It lost four constituencies it gained in 2015 regional and local authority elections – Khorixas, Kamanjab, Opuwo Urban and Sesfontein.

Outjo constituency was saved.

In 2015, Swapo had wrestled Khorixas, Kamanjab and Sesfontein from the United Democratic Front and Opuwo Urban from the Popular Democratic Movement.

Kunene has seven constituencies.

During the handover of the party’s office to the new leadership last Thursday, Kaujova said, “The only thing I would like to assure you is that my leadership style is based on an open-door policy, team work and consultation. Our primary political target for the remaining two to three years is to improve our party’s performance in the November 2024 presidential and National Assembly elections and to retain Kunene region in the November 2025 regional council and local authority elections,” he said.

The outgoing regional coordinator Tauranga Kavari handed over the offices to Kaujova at a ceremony attended by Uahekua Herunga, the chairperson of leaders assigned to Kunene region.

Kaujova emphasised that, as leaders and members of Swapo, they must guard against violating their constitution, which they must protect, defend and uphold.

Kaujova, who was part of the regional leadership as a treasurer before says he was familiar with all the challenges and obstacles facing the region.

Kunene governor Marius Sheya said, “Comrades, our party is at a point where we need unity more than individual interest and genuine comradeship to achieve a win to govern the region and the country, in particular.

“Let us unite our region as there are a lot of forces at play to destroy how far we have come, especially in the election year,” Sheya said.

Together with Kaujova, Tulipomwene Haimbondja was elected as the regional information and mobilisation officer, while Alfons Katjingisiua was elected unopposed as the regional treasurer.
