NFA dismisses Haikali and excom

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Namibia Football Association (NFA) congress on Saturday dismissed its whole executive committee, including president Ranga Haikali, at its 30th ordinary congress in Windhoek.

At a press conference in Windhoek yesterday, Sacky Uwu-Khaeb who represents the Otjozondjupa region on the congress, communicated the outcome of the congress.

“We all know that the NFA has a recent troubled history of infighting, as a result of which football has not been played. We expected that after the elections of 22 February, the new executive committee would work as a team to lead the NFA into a new era.

“Unfortunately this did not happen and with the scheduled NFA congress which took place yesterday, the congress delegates deliberated on a motion tabled by the Otjozondjupa region executive to dismiss the whole executive committee.

“The motion has been deliberated upon and the resolution has been adopted by the congress to dismiss the whole executive committee and relieve them of their duties with immediate effect.

“The congress has further resolved, as directed by the NFA statutes, that the secretary general will call an elective congress with immediate effect, to elect a new executive committee.

“The congress further mandated the secretary general to finalise all pending staff appointments in existing vacancies, to allow the organisation to function to its full potential,” he said.

Uwu-Khaeb added that 22 of the 23 members present voted in favour of dismissing the executive committee, with only Women’s Football voting against the motion.

NFA secretary general Franco Cosmos said they had notified Fifa about the congress and did not receive any opposition to their plans.

“We notified CAF and Fifa that there was an extraordinary congress slated for 17 November. CAF then wrote to us and said that the extraordinary congress should be put on hold and we have complied with that. Two days thereafter the secretariat wrote to CAF and Fifa again telling them that there is a congress that is scheduled for 4 December, and they should inform us whether that congress should go ahead or also be put on hold, but they didn’t say anything, so we went ahead and the 30th ordinary congress was held on Saturday,” he said.

“The whole executive committee was dismantled, meaning that there’s no executive committee. So Fifa will be notified tomorrow about the outcome of the congress,” he added.

Cosmos added that the congress was the highest decision making authority of the NFA.

“This was done in terms of the NFA’s statutes, so Fifa can also come and ask questions and we will give them the documentation to show what happened. Even with the recent visit of Fifa and CAF here, we gave them all the documents and nowhere did they say we did things contrary to our statutes or we didn’t follow our statutes,” he said.

Congress member Maleagi Ngarizemo said new elections will be held within 90 days.

“The congress mandated the secretary general to call the election so that’s the only time that we will be able to elect a new leadership. So within 90 days, he has to organise the elections according to the statutes,” he said.

NFA president Ranga Haikali, meanwhile, declined to comment on the matter.
